Our History
Cobbs, Allen & Hall has been serving our clients with professional advice since 1887. The business began in Birmingham, Alabama and grew in both the insurance and the mortgage business throughout the 19th century. During the early 1970’s, the mortgage business was sold and the firm remained focused on the insurance division. In 1992, a group of investors headed by current President, Grantland Rice, III acquired the firm with the vision to bring new solutions to risk management issues. At the time of the purchase Cobbs, Allen, & Hall was a small insurance brokerage with only 20 employees. In January of 1993, Bruce S. Denson joined the company as Chief Executive Officer to help carry out the vision of the investors to grow Cobbs, Allen & Hall into a large regional brokerage. The company's vision was for the company to grow steadily and organically at 15% a year for the next decade. The firm has grown over the past 19 years with a compound annual growth rate in excess of 15 percent and now is the largest privately held insurance and risk management firm headquartered in Alabama. The firm implemented an ESOP several years ago and is an employee owned firm led by CEO, Bruce S. Denson and President, Grantland Rice, III.
Separate divisions have been established over the years for commercial insurance consulting, surety/bonding work, claims administration and workers compensation management, loss control and safety consultants, human resource consulting, personal insurance services along with other client services. Today, CAH is a full service risk management firm capable of providing service to local, regional and national accounts. As a firm ranked in the top 50 of privately held brokerage firms and top 100 of all brokerage firms, the firm is ready to bring solutions to your risk management issues.
